July Moodboard + Monthly Goals

A time for reflection.

We are now halfway through the year and, in my opinion, this is the best time to do a check-in and reflect on how the work year is going so far.

As for our business, we have taken on less clients this year and that is helping TREMENDOUSLY with avoiding burnout so far. This time last year I felt like I couldn’t come up for air or take even a long weekend for myself. This year, we’ve prioritized our mental and physical health in a way that I literally only dreamed about in years past. You’ve also seen how our monthly goals have looked quite a bit different from previous years, as each has reflected this focus on taking care of ourselves vs. working ourselves to to the bone.

I also did a “purge” of sorts for the business this past month. I unsubscribed from random memberships, deleted monthly payments for services we don’t use enough, and moved all of our files from the beginning part of the year into my external hard drive to clean up my computer a bit and leave room for more expression and creating as the year continues.

I also spent some time going through all those design files and sorting old projects and HOLY MOLY I have a lot of content I’ve never gotten around to sharing with you all. There’s definitely a sense of pride when seeing all of our work together like that and really taking note of the incredible things we get to create for our amazing clients. Be on the lookout for a LOT more posts over on Instagram of all the goodies we’ve made for recent clients.

I think it’s pertinent to also do some reflection on the state of our emotional and mental health these days and, at least in our personal life, we’ve seemed to turn over a new leaf in our grief journeys and are starting to feel a bit more like ourselves. It’s almost like prioritizing ourselves has worked or something. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Whether you use this middle of the year as a refresher of sorts for your business, taking an hour or two to reflect on how this year is going and where you would like it to head for the remainder of the year can be a great way to realign with your goals and intentions. Also pat yourself on the back for making in through a kind of wild start to the 2022!

Monthly Goals

1. 30 Day Yoga Challenge

As a reward for completing 10,000 steps a day for 21 days in the month of May I bought myself a fancy new yoga mat. Unfortunately, I haven’t made a ton of time to use it in June but I’m determined to change that. With all the exercising Mike and I do we definitely need to start adding in some slow strength building and intense stretching so I’ve already prepared him for the fact that he’s gonna be breaking out his yoga mat with me to do one of Yoga With Adriene‘s 30 day yoga challenges. I’ll try to remember to document our journey on my Insta stories and we’d love to hear from some of you all if you decide to join in!

2. Lean Into Creative Outlets Outside Work

Since I haven’t been taking on as much client work this year this has given me so much time to focus on other creative outlets outside of my day-to-day tasks. Even if you LIVE for being creative it can still feel rough to be creative on command for other people all the time. That’s why I’ve found that other creative outlets help excite me and stimulate other thoughts and ideas that fuel my creativity as a whole. I’ve been writing more, both fiction and jotting down my thoughts and memories in a journal. This has mainly been just for fun but who knows what I may end up doing with these fictional stories. Mike and I have also planned out an adorable, vibe-y video game that he can program and I could do the art for. I’m just one of those people that wants to try just about every creative avenue at least once, if for nothing else than to say I’ve done it.

3. Donate To Women’s Health Organizations

We are a big supporter of women here at Sweet Horizon Studio. It’s honestly my favorite thing to work with fellow female entrepreneurs. This also means that we take women’s healthcare incredibly seriously and the recent SCOTUS ruling is devastating to us and so many women that need access to healthcare. Maternal Mortality Rates are bizarrely high and this number is only going to rise as women are refused medical care for ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, and pregnancy related complications around the country. We plan to donate to causes that are directly helping women get the aid they need and supporting mothers in their time of need. If you can’t donate monetarily, PLEASE vote in the mid-terms this November. Women’s lives depend on it.

What goals are you focusing on this month? Any that are similar to mine? Let me know over on Instagram!

For this month’s free background I needed something bright to cheer up my screens. This watercolor splash background just feels like summer to me, spending hours at the pool, basking in the summer sun, and embracing the chaos that life turns into every summer when our schedules become a bit more flexible. For the free background there are versions for your computer, tablet and phone wallpapers. Just scroll down or follow this link and sign up to our newsletter receive your free download!
