February Moodboard + Monthly Goals

Romanticizing the little details.

Mike and I were driving in the car the other day, listening to some of our favorite songs on Spotify as we sipped yummy coffee, and I was pondering song writing and what made some songs really resonate with people. I’m a sucker for great lyrics and a song needs to do more than just rhyme, in my opinion. It needs to really pull on my heart to become a favorite of mine. Then this thought occurred to me:

The best songwriters know to romanticize even the smallest things about life. And I don’t just mean they make everything seem romantic or lovey-dovey. What I mean is, they take little details, acute feelings, or small moments in time and make them feel like the most important thing in the world. Because when you experience something and are in the moment it is the most important thing in the world.

It’s not just a break up song; It’s that moment driving home alone in silence when you know you’ve just had a heartbreaking conversation. It’s not just a song about going somewhere new; It’s a song about striking out on an adventure and the thrill of the unknown. It’s not just a party song; It’s a song about what it’s like to be young and having the best night out with your girlfriends. It’s not just a love song; It’s a song about how that one person focuses in on you and smiles at you while in a crowd of people.

Good books do this too: make us think about scenarios and people in a way that exaggerates the moments and makes everything feel a bit magical.

So that’s what I want out of February, and life for that matter. I want to romanticize the small, enjoy the details, appreciate it all. And I want to feel the magic.

Monthly Goals

1. Read for fun

This is part of my yearly goals and it is actually in my planner as my habit to track for this month. My goal is to read for 30 minutes, 5 times a week. Ideally, I would love to start my mornings out like this but I’m SO not a morning person. More likely I will end my evenings with a good book in hand and possibly a yummy cup of decaf tea to wind down. If I want to be really extra maybe I can be one of those people that pours a glass of wine, runs a bath, and enjoys a book while fully relaxing in the bathtub.

2. Finish several projects

We have several client and personal projects that carried over from last year and I’m ready to get them wrapped up and finalized! There’s something about having something on your to-do list for months on end that starts to kind of wear on you and it’s always a feeling of accomplishment to officially sign off on a finished project. Our theme launch took a backseat to other priorities at the end of last year but we are still working hard on them behind the scenes over here. So so ready to get these out into the world for you all!

3. Prioritize Mike

Another goal from my yearly goals this year. Mike and I have been through the ringer and back but everything that has happened has been external to our relationship. We’ve actually leaned on each other more than ever in these last couple of years and have grown tremendously because of it. But we also need more date nights and time to just enjoy each other’s company. While we love working side by side everyday, nothing really compares to getting dressed up and heading out to dinner to really talk and connect.
