Blogs Every Girlboss Should Be Following

My goal for this blog has changed over the years. First it was kind of a catch-all of all the things I love, but when I started my business and then as my business has changed over time this blog has honed in on what I want to cover and […]

Need a new website but not sure what platform to c Need a new website but not sure what platform to choose? Yep, you’ve got options!

We’ve worked with a lot of different web platforms in the almost 5 years we’ve been in business. While web platforms seem to popup all the time, certain ones have made a name for themselves as the tried and true front runners within different industries.

Most of our clients know us for our work with WordPress or Shopify, but we always chat about what web platform would best suit our client’s needs during our introductory calls.

On the blog, we’re talking about the most popular web platforms on the market these days and I’ll briefly breakdown the highlights and low points of each one and let you decided what would be best suited for your blog or business!
Something we don’t talk about enough: running a Something we don’t talk about enough: running a business by yourself can be LONELY.

During my first couple of years in business, I spent my days working alone at home, trying to figure out what to post to Instagram, how to market myself, how to answer client emails, trying to figure out what other, more successful, people in my industry were doing, and basically second guessing every single thing I did for my business. I also talked Mike’s ear off every night (still do, actually) and all he could really do was listen since he had no experience in this industry either.

Sound familiar?

But what I did next CHANGED my business entirely. I reached out to fellow designers all over the world that were doing exactly what I was doing. We had virtual coffee dates, talked business, shared stories, and confided in each other about ALL we had going on in our businesses.

I formed true friendships and was finally able to talk to other people who understood every aspect of my business, what I stressed out about, what got me excited, and what goals I had set for myself. These women UNDERSTOOD.

Fast forward 3+ years since I started reaching out to people and I now have a network of creative women that I’m so inspired and encouraged by. We text each other to ask for advice, to share wins, and to just run ideas past one another.

These women are NOT my competition. They are my coworkers, confidants, and allies!

By encouraging each other, and boosting each other’s businesses, our entire industry becomes more legit and stable. I’m so excited to be connecting with even more women through courses I’m currently taking, like @morganrapp’s DBM, meeting new creatives here on this platform, and now getting to interview some amazing women on my podcast each month.

Let me know: who are some of your favorite women/friends in your industry?
We’re so so excited to now be including intervie We’re so so excited to now be including interviews on the Broadening Horizons Podcast! We are kicking things off today with an interview with one of my dear friends Abbey McGrew of @wayfarerdesignstudio.

Abbey is known for being an incredible branding and web designer and she now helps other designers tackle some of their biggest obstacles, like streamlining their design process, sending out proposals, and getting feedback from clients, through her course the Designer Essentials Kit.

She and I sat down to chat all about what it takes to put together a shop and course, how she’s maintaining it for future students, and how she’s effectively added this course to her already flourishing design business. Follow the link in my bio to have a listen!

She’s not perfect, but she’s here and showing off all we have going on these days! We’ll be popping in quite a bit in the coming months and making updates and adding new features and services to the website, and of course giving you guys the lowdown here as well!

We hope you’ll take some time to explore our new site and let us know what you think!
It’s been a bit since I’ve done an actual Frid It’s been a bit since I’ve done an actual Friday Introductions around here, so here it goes:

Hi friends! I’m Catryn (pronounced like catch-ren) and the owner of this design studio.
♦ I could talk about my work forever if I thought it wouldn’t drive people crazy (that’s why I love hosting my own podcast).
♦ I have a degree in Art & Design but I’ve learned so much in the almost 5 years I’ve been running this business.
♦ If I wasn’t a designer, I’d love to be an Art History teacher.
♦ On my days off, you can find me buying more house plants than I need, perusing used book stores for vintage classics, practicing my watercolor painting & photography skills, making up songs about my dog Radley, and spending everyday with my sweet husband, Mike.

What do your days off typically look like?
